Paper log update

Just in case there were any doubters following my initial enthusiasm about my paper log maker, just thought I’d better show some pictures of the paper logs I’ve made for the log burner.

Having had a clear out of (amongst other things) magazines and paperwork, we’ve no shortage of paper log-making material – so quite satisfying to turn a load of rubbish into a source of free fuel.  Even better than sending it out with the recycling.  😉

A Flaming Success!

Burnt the first two of our paper logs last night – and they were great.  Half expected them to go up in a matter of minutes, but they took a surprisingly long time to burn.  Very effective.

We have agreed therefore that there will be no paper sent to recycling from this household – it all gets ripped up into small pieces and put in the tub outside where it soaks before being made into logs (on warmer days – else my hands freeze!).

I’ve set up a little rack in the airing cupboard to partially dry the logs – then we put them next to the log burner to finish drying before burning them.

With a combination of the paper logs and the wood we’ve collected (I had a go at splitting the big logs the other day for the first time!), our lounge is a warm and cosy place to be!
