As you’ve probably been able to tell, I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to the layout of my veg garden.  I’m all for straight rows and blocks of certain veg in specific places in the plot.  But that’s not to say I don’t admire people who manage to make their garden both productive and pleasing on the eye in a more natural way. 

I know we grow all this veg for practical reasons, but you have to admit, some of it is quite attractive in its own right.


And then of course, because every cottage has to have roses, here’s the first rose of the year:

So while the ultimate aim is a step towards self-sufficiency, it’s not all about practicality – it’s also a little bit about charm.
